Yamaha FGX820 MKII Electro-Acoustic Guitar (Natural) – Cutaway / System 66 / Solid Spruce Top
Safe and secure checkout
The Yamaha FGX820 MKII (FGX820C MKII / FGX820C NTII in some listings) is a full-bodied electro-acoustic built for players who want classic Yamaha FG power, plus confident stage-ready electronics. It’s based on Yamaha’s FG820 – solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides – but adds a convenient cutaway for upper-fret access and Yamaha’s System66 pickup and preamp so you can plug straight into PA, interface, or acoustic amp.
The solid spruce top and mahogany body deliver that familiar FG voice: warm low end, strong, musical mids, and clear but never harsh highs. Yamaha reshaped the internal scalloped bracing to push volume and body in the low–mid range without sacrificing durability, so it sounds bigger and more “finished” straight out of the case.
Live or recording, the onboard under-saddle SRT piezo pickup and System66 preamp give you a controllable, gig-ready signal with 3-band EQ, sweepable mids, and a built-in chromatic tuner. The preamp runs on easy-to-find AA batteries for stable power and consistent tone.
Natural gloss finish, cream binding, tortoise-pattern pickguard, and die-cast chrome tuners round out the look.

Key Features
-
Solid spruce top + mahogany back & sides
Solid spruce on top for projection and clarity, paired with mahogany back and sides for warmth, punchy midrange, and fast response. -
Traditional Western cutaway body
The FGX820 MKII keeps the classic Yamaha “Traditional Western” (dreadnought-style) body shape but adds a cutaway so you can actually reach the higher frets comfortably. -
Re-voiced scalloped bracing
Yamaha’s updated scalloped X-bracing boosts low and low-mid power, making the guitar sound fuller and louder while still keeping the top structurally stable. -
System66 + SRT pickup
Yamaha’s under-saddle SRT piezo pickup feeds the System66 preamp, which gives you Volume, 3-band EQ, a sweepable mid frequency control, and a built-in tuner. It’s voiced for a natural, usable acoustic tone on stage, not a brittle “quack.” Powered by AA batteries. -
Comfortable neck, familiar feel
Nato neck with a matte finish for a smooth, played-in feel; 43 mm nut width; 650 mm (25 9/16") scale; 20 frets; R400 mm (~15.75") fingerboard radius for easy chording and strumming. -
Stable hardware
Die-cast chrome tuners for reliable tuning stability, urea nut and saddle for clean intonation, and a traditional acoustic-style bridge (current production commonly uses walnut; some runs list rosewood). -
Gig-ready aesthetic
Gloss body finish, cream binding, black/white soundhole inlay, tortoise-pattern pickguard (black guard on the black finish option). Looks classic under stage lights, not “budget electro.”
Why Choose This Guitar
-
That FG voice, but plugged in.
The FG line has been Yamaha’s steel-string workhorse since 1966, known for strong projection, reliability, and value. Over 50+ years and 200+ FG variations, Yamaha have refined the recipe so it just works for real-world players. -
Cutaway + electronics, not an afterthought.
Unlike a “stick a pickup in it later” acoustic, the FGX820 MKII is designed from the start to be amplified, with the System66 preamp controls right on the side and a tuner you can actually see on stage. -
Scalloped bracing = bigger tone.
The modern FG bracing pattern was developed using Yamaha’s acoustic analysis and simulation tools, not just guesswork. Result: a fuller low-mid push, more headroom, and a voice that carries in a mix. -
Built to last.
Yamaha go heavy on consistency: seasoned woods, clean finishing, solid neck joints, tidy fretwork, proper QC. The goal is a guitar you keep, not something you “upgrade away from” in six months.
This guitar is a sweet spot for players who want: an affordable solid-top dreadnought feel, real plugged-in control, and upper fret access – for writing, open mics, worship sets, acoustic duos, or studio scratch takes.
