Instead of rosewood or padauk, the YM-2400 uses Yamaha’s Acoustalon tone bars. These are fibre-reinforced artificial wood bars designed to give a warm, natural marimba sound while being far more resistant to changes in temperature, humidity and daily handling. That makes this model especially useful in education settings where the instrument may be moved, shared and played heavily throughout the week.

What Does It Actually Sound Like?
The YM-2400 is designed to sound close to a natural wooden marimba, but with the durability benefits of Acoustalon.
The tone is warm, clear and resonant, with enough body in the lower register and a clean, focused response in the upper notes. It will not have exactly the same character as a high-end rosewood concert marimba, but for schools, colleges, rehearsals and regular student use, it gives a very musical sound without being as delicate or climate-sensitive.
Yamaha’s Sonic Tone Hole design helps the Acoustalon bars produce a more open, resonant tone, while the graduated bar sizes improve projection across the full range.
