Birch Shell Construction

The shell is built from 6-ply, 6mm 100% North American birch, giving it a sonic character that ensures every stroke speaks clearly and distinctly. The 30-degree bearing edges deliver a sharp response and clear snare sensitivity right across the dynamic range, from the lightest ghost notes to a full, driving backbeat. The shells offer a genuinely wide tuning range, respond well to different head choices, and are straightforward to tune — useful whether you're chasing a specific studio sound or just want a snare that's easy to dial in night after night.

The revamped one-piece lug uses a modern design that retains the traditional essence of the Recording Custom series. In order to maximise the attenuating properties of the birch wood, the one-piece lug design helps ensure optimum sustain of the core sound, producing a crisp, articulate tone. 

The heavy-duty Q-type strainer is robust, offering solid, stable, smooth operation alongside easy adjustment and snare wire replacement. The 1.6mm triple-flange hoop is sturdy yet lightweight, providing an open sound, a wide tuning window, and a strong backbeat feel.
