Yamaha DTX482K Electronic Drum Kit

The Yamaha DTX482K is an electronic drum kit for players who want something more capable than a very basic starter kit, but still easy enough to use at home for practice, lessons and everyday playing.

It is based around Yamaha’s DTX402 sound module, with a strong upgraded pad setup that includes the XP80 3-zone snare pad, KP65 kick pad, real Yamaha bass drum pedal and an expanded cymbal configuration. That makes it a good step up if you want better snare response, more playing options and a kit that feels more useful as your playing develops.

What Does It Actually Sound Like?

The DTX402 module includes 287 drum and percussion sounds, plus 128 keyboard sounds.

You get 10 built-in drum kits covering different styles, with acoustic drum sounds, electronic sounds and percussion voices. It is not trying to be a huge flagship drum module, but it gives beginners and improving players a useful range of sounds for practice, lessons, playing along with music and learning different styles.

The module also includes nine reverb types, so you can add some space and depth to the drum sound rather than everything feeling completely dry.

Upgraded 3-Zone Snare Pad

One of the big differences with the DTX482K is the XP80 snare pad.

This is a Yamaha Textured Cellular Silicone pad with three playing zones, allowing head shots, rimshots and cross-stick sounds. That gives you a more realistic snare experience than a simple single-zone rubber pad, especially when learning proper technique and dynamic control.

The surface has a softer, more comfortable response than basic hard rubber pads, which makes it nicer to play for longer practice sessions.

Good for Practice and Learning

The DTX482K is built around practice as much as playing.

The DTX402 module includes 10 built-in training functions, covering timing, accuracy, speed, rhythm and control. These are useful whether you are a beginner trying to stay in time or an improving drummer working on consistency.

The metronome can run from 30 to 300bpm, with beat settings from 1/4 to 9/4, so it covers simple practice right through to more awkward timing exercises.

You can also connect to Yamaha’s DTX402 Touch app for easier kit editing and training features. The Rec’n’Share app can be used for playing along with songs, recording performances and reviewing your playing.

Proper Kick Pedal Feel

The DTX482K includes a KP65 kick pad and Yamaha FP6110A bass drum pedal.

That gives you a more natural bass drum pedal feel than electronic kits that use a simple silent foot controller. It is especially useful for players who want to develop real kick drum technique, or who may eventually move between electronic and acoustic kits.

The KP65 kick pad is also twin-pedal compatible, which gives you more flexibility if your playing develops in that direction.
