Description

This is a pre-owned Roland SH-1000, a vintage monophonic analogue synthesiser from the early 1970s.

The SH-1000 is an important instrument in Roland’s history, known as Roland’s first synthesiser and one of the early compact Japanese analogue synths. It has a very different feel to modern digital keyboards and workstation synths — hands-on, simple, immediate and full of character.

It is a proper vintage synth for players, collectors, studios and anyone looking for classic analogue tones with a bit of history behind them.

What Does It Actually Sound Like?

The Roland SH-1000 has a raw, early analogue sound.

It is monophonic, so it plays one note at a time, making it best suited to bass lines, lead sounds, effects, drones and classic synth textures rather than chords or piano-style playing.

The single oscillator design, low-pass filter, ADSR envelope and modulation options give it a very direct, old-school synth character. It can do warm basses, simple leads, quirky effects and vintage electronic sounds that feel very different to polished modern synth presets.

Why Is the SH-1000 Interesting?

The SH-1000 is not just another old keyboard.

It is part of Roland’s early synthesiser story and has become collectable because of its age, design and place in synth history. It has a straightforward control layout with physical sliders and switches, which makes it enjoyable to experiment with rather than menu-driven.

For someone who wants a vintage Roland instrument with genuine character, the SH-1000 is a lovely thing to have in the studio.

Who Is It For?

This is a good choice for synth collectors, electronic musicians, studio owners, producers and players who enjoy vintage analogue gear.

It is also well suited to anyone who wants a hands-on monosynth for bass, lead and effect sounds, especially if you prefer older instruments with character rather than modern presets and screens.

If you need polyphony, MIDI, patch memory or modern workstation features, this is not that kind of instrument. This is a vintage analogue synth with all the charm, limitations and character that come with that.

Condition Note

This is a Pre-Owned / Vintage Roland synthesiser.

As with any vintage electronic instrument, cosmetic condition and functionality should be checked carefully. Please refer to the photos for the exact condition of the unit being sold.

Due to the age of the instrument, small cosmetic marks, wear to the case, slider caps, panel, keys or hardware should be expected unless stated otherwise.

Not Sure If This Is the Right Synth?

The Roland SH-1000 is a great choice if you want a genuine vintage analogue monosynth with classic Roland character.

It is best for players who enjoy hands-on control and old analogue sounds. If you need modern connectivity, saved presets, polyphonic playing or computer integration, a newer synthesiser may suit you better.

If you are buying it as a vintage instrument, it is worth remembering that part of the appeal is its age and character rather than modern convenience.
