Pre-Owned Roland RD-700SX 88-Key Stage Piano with Flight Case
Safe and secure checkout
The Roland RD-700SX is one of those older stage pianos that still makes a lot of sense if you're after a proper weighted 88-note keyboard, strong piano and electric piano sounds, and plenty of hands-on control without spending modern flagship-stage-piano money.
This particular RD-700SX has been part of our hire stock and, as the photos show, it has definitely done some gigs. It isn't a tidy bedroom example. There are scratches, scuffs, marks, old hire stickers and label residue across the casing, along with a more substantial area of cosmetic impact/abrasion damage to one of the lower rear corners.
We're not trying to hide any of that – we've photographed it closely so you can see exactly what you're buying.
What you are getting, though, is a seriously capable professional Roland stage piano complete with its heavy-duty flight case, power cable and sustain pedal.
What does it actually sound like?
The RD-700SX was built first and foremost around its piano sounds. Roland gave it two fully multisampled 88-note concert grand piano sets, backed up by electric pianos, organs, strings, pads, brass, synth sounds and the wider GM2 sound set.
The acoustic pianos have that recognisable Roland character: clear, controlled and particularly useful in a live mix. The electric pianos are another strong point, and the front-panel EQ, effects and zone controls mean you can make useful changes without disappearing through endless menus.
It may be an older instrument, but this was a serious professional stage piano when it was released, and there is a lot more going on here than just a weighted keyboard with a handful of sounds.
The Keyboard
The RD-700SX uses Roland's 88-note Progressive Hammer-Action keyboard. The weighting changes across the keyboard, with a heavier feel towards the bass and a lighter response towards the top end, giving it a much more piano-like feel than a standard synth-action keyboard.
For pianists wanting something substantial under the fingers, this is still a very different proposition from a lightweight portable keyboard.
Built for Stage Use
This is where the RD-700SX really earns its keep.
You've got four assignable zone sliders for splits, layers and external MIDI control, dedicated EQ and effects controls, balanced XLR outputs as well as standard jack outputs, multiple pedal inputs and full MIDI connectivity.
It can therefore work as a straightforward stage piano or sit at the centre of a larger keyboard/MIDI setup.

Condition
Pre-owned – ex-hire stock.
This keyboard has seen considerable professional use and shows plenty of cosmetic wear.
Visible condition includes:
- Numerous scratches, scuffs and marks to the casing
- Wear along the front and rear edges
- Old Ev-Entz hire stickers and adhesive/label residue
- General marks from transport and stage use
- Noticeable impact/abrasion damage to one lower rear corner of the outer casing
- General cosmetic wear around the rear panel
- Flight case is also heavily used, with scratches, marks and wear
- Flight case handles have been taped/reinforced
Please look through all of the photographs carefully. We've deliberately included close-ups rather than attempting to disguise the wear.
This is not one for somebody looking for a cosmetically pristine RD-700SX. It's much better suited to somebody who wants a substantial working stage piano and isn't worried about the battle scars.

Who is it for?
This makes a lot of sense for a rehearsal room, venue, school, studio, theatre setup or gigging player who wants a weighted professional keyboard and doesn't need it to look new.
The combination of the RD-700SX and a proper flight case also makes it a much more practical proposition for anyone who expects the keyboard to be moved regularly.
