This pre-owned Gretsch Brooklyn 14" x 6.5" snare drum combines the warm, full-bodied sound of Gretsch’s maple/poplar shell with the slightly more open character of their 302 double-flanged hoops.
Made in the USA, the Brooklyn series has plenty of classic Gretsch character. The 6.5" depth gives the drum a good amount of body and weight, while still responding well when tuned higher for a tighter, more articulate sound.
The Creme Oyster finish gives it a traditional vintage-style appearance, matched with chrome hardware and the Brooklyn round badge.
This particular drum is pre-owned and does show signs of previous use. There are some cosmetic marks and wear around the rim/hoop area, along with normal playing marks to the batter head. Nothing unusual for a used snare, but we've photographed the drum clearly so you can see its condition before buying.
A great opportunity to pick up a USA-made Brooklyn snare without paying the price of a brand-new example.
What does it actually sound like?
The Brooklyn has a warm, rounded sound with plenty of body from the 6.5" shell.
At medium tunings it has a fat centre hit with a little natural openness around the edges. Bring the tuning up and it becomes crisp and responsive while still retaining more body than a shallower 5" or 5.5" snare.
The 302 double-flanged hoops also allow the drum to ring a little more freely than Gretsch's heavier die-cast hoops, making this a particularly versatile snare for rock, pop, blues, soul and studio work.

- Playing marks and wear to the batter head
- General light cosmetic wear associated with normal use

Why Choose the Brooklyn?
The Brooklyn series sits in a really nice position within the Gretsch USA range. It still has the warmth and character people tend to associate with Gretsch drums, but the 302 hoops give it a slightly more open and lively response.
The 14" x 6.5" size is also a very useful all-rounder. There is enough depth for a big backbeat without the drum becoming difficult to control when you need something tighter.
