Description

Percussion Plus Slap Djembe Replacement Head

Djembe heads take a lot of punishment — and when it's time to replace one, getting the right head for the job makes a real difference to how the drum plays and sounds. These Percussion Plus Slap Djembe replacement heads are made from synthetic materials and are designed as direct replacements for Percussion Plus Slap Djembes, available in 8", 10" and 12" diameters to suit whichever size drum you have.

They work with both mechanically tuned and rope tuned Percussion Plus Slap Djembes, and are also compatible with other brands of rope or mechanically tuned djembe in the same sizes — so they're a useful option beyond the Percussion Plus range.

One important note: these heads are only compatible with the Percussion Plus Slap Djembe (mechanically tuned) and Percussion Plus Slap Djembe (rope tuned). They are not compatible with the World Slap Djembes or Carnival Slap Djembes.

The Printed Head Design

One of the most useful things about these heads is the screen-printed surface. The print shows hand position guides for the three fundamental djembe sounds — bass, tone and slap — making it a genuinely practical teaching tool, particularly for beginners who are still learning where and how to strike the drum to get the best results.

Bass — Strike the centre of the drum with a flat, stiff palm for a deep, booming low tone. Let your hand bounce back to allow the sound to ring out fully.

Tone — Straighten all fingers together and strike with your hand as a flat extension of your arm. You should get a solid, defined thud. There are several hand positions that produce tonal variation — the print helps you explore them.

SlapSame position as the tone, but relax the hand and arm and let it land with a slapping motion. Spread your fingers slightly on contact for a crisp, bright crack at the top end.

These three sounds — bass, tone, slap — are the foundation of djembe playing, and having a visual guide printed directly onto the head means a student can reference it while playing without needing to look away from the drum.
