Description

Ernie Ball Regular Slinky Cobalt Flatwound Bass Strings are designed for bass players who want the smooth feel of flatwounds, but with more power, clarity and response than a traditional flatwound set.

This 50-105 gauge set features a SuperBright Cobalt ribbon wrap, Cobalt underwraps and an optimised hex-core to wrap ratio. The result is a bass string that feels smooth under the fingers, but keeps more of the brightness and punch normally associated with roundwound strings.

They are a good choice if you like the reduced finger noise and comfortable feel of flatwounds, but do not want your bass sound to become too dark or muted.

What Do They Actually Sound Like?

These strings are designed to sit between traditional flatwounds and roundwounds.

You still get the smoother feel and more controlled response of a flatwound string, but the Cobalt construction gives them a stronger, clearer and more lively tone. That makes them useful for bassists who want warmth and control without losing definition in the mix.

They work well for players who need a smoother string feel but still want enough attack for modern playing styles.

Why Choose Cobalt Flatwounds?

Traditional flatwound bass strings are often chosen for their smooth feel, reduced finger noise and warmer sound. The downside is that some flatwounds can feel quite dark or dull, especially if you are used to roundwounds.

Ernie Ball Cobalt Flatwounds are made to bridge that gap. They feel like flatwounds, but are voiced to sound clearer and more powerful than many old-school flat sets.

This makes them a good choice for players who want a more refined feel without completely losing brightness.

Who Are They For?

This set is suitable for 4-string bass players who want a regular 50-105 gauge with a smooth flatwound feel.

They suit funk, soul, pop, rock, blues, worship, studio work and general bass playing. They also make sense for players who want less finger noise for recording, or who prefer a smoother feel under the fingers.

If you want the brightest, most textured sound possible, roundwounds may still be a better choice. If you want a very dark vintage thump, a more traditional flatwound set may suit you better.

Not Sure If These Are the Right Bass Strings?

These are a good choice if you want the smooth feel of flatwounds, but with more brightness, punch and definition than a traditional flatwound set.

If you prefer a very bright, textured feel, standard roundwounds may suit you better. If you want a darker vintage-style bass tone, compare these with more traditional flatwound bass strings.
