The Dunlop Pure Formula 65 Coconut Oil Fretboard Conditioner is made for keeping unfinished fretboards feeling smooth, clean and properly looked after.
If your rosewood, pau ferro or similar unfinished fretboard is starting to look dry, pale or tired, this is the kind of product that helps bring it back to life. It is designed to hydrate the wood, restore some of the natural colour, and highlight the grain detail without turning guitar maintenance into a complicated job.
It comes in a 118ml bottle, so it is a useful addition to a home guitar-care kit, shop bench, school maintenance box or repair setup.
What Does It Actually Do?
This conditioner is designed for most unfinished fretboard woods. Apply a small amount, work it into the fretboard, then wipe away the excess with a clean cloth.
The idea is simple: dry fretboards can feel rough, look faded and lose some of that smooth playing feel under the fingers. Dunlop’s coconut oil conditioner helps refresh the surface of the wood, bringing back a darker, healthier-looking appearance and making the fretboard feel nicer to play.
It is also infused with a ginger fizz scent, so it leaves the instrument smelling fresh without being overpowering.
Where Should You Use It?
Use this on unfinished fretboards such as rosewood, pau ferro and similar open-grain fingerboard woods.
Do not use it on lacquered, sealed or finished maple fingerboards unless you are completely sure the surface is unfinished and suitable for oil. Most maple fretboards are finished, so they usually need a different cleaning approach.
It is also not for the main body finish of the guitar. For that, use a proper guitar polish or cleaner designed for finished surfaces.
Who Is It For?
This is useful for guitarists, bassists, teachers, schools, shops and repair benches — basically anyone who changes strings or looks after instruments regularly.
It is especially handy during a string change, because that is the easiest time to clean and condition the fretboard properly. If you are setting up guitars for sale, maintaining student instruments or just trying to keep your own guitar feeling good, this is a very sensible product to have around.
If your fretboard already looks healthy and feels smooth, you do not need to overuse it. A little goes a long way.
